Canned Cinnamon Apples in Light Syrup Recipe

These apples smell so good and are so delicious.  I love making apple recipes this time of year.  It feels like Christmas when I am cooking these. My daughter and I loved making them. We ate some that afternoon and canned the rest to use throughout the year.

Canning Cinnamon Apples

10.5 cups water
4.5 cups sugar
¼ cup cinnamon
1 bushel of apples

Peel, core and slice the apples. You can add lemon juice if you want to keep the color. Combine the water and sugar in a stock pot. Bring water to a boil for 1 minute. Turn off the water. Add the cinnamon and apples and stir. Leave the apples in the water for about 5 minutes. Then can the apples and syrup according to the Ball Canning Book. These are great as a side dish when you are in a hurry with dinner.

based on your recipe, do you know how much lemon juice you would need?

  2. Amy says:

Mmmm mmm i can almost smell these… I just started canning, with my daughter. We will have to give these a try.

  3. katie says:

Yum! Those look delicious. : )

  4. Alison says:

Approximately how many apples are in a bushel? What kind of apples do you recommend using?

    • Rene says:

You want to use a firm apple. The number of apples varies based on their size, but it is as many as fit in a bushel box. Usually about 125 medium sized apples.

  5. These look delicious! I have only canned once, but I would love to get back into it! I linked to you from Mingle Monday. Thanks

  8. Those apples do look tasty! I love the idea of using them as a side dish – never thought of that. They would probably be good in a pie if you were rushed for time.

OOOH PERFECT FOR FALL! THANKS FOR POSTING AT WONKA WEDNESDAY! XOXO

  10. Rene says:

Barb, I have used them for pies in a pinch, but I usually can apple pie filling as well & use that. The apples are cut finer, and the sauce is thicker in the filling. (-:

  11. Those look yummy. I am imagining them tied up with a pretty red gingham ribbon and given as gifts.

    :)

    • Rene says:

I have given them as gifts before. (-: Barb – I usually get about 19 quarts out of it. As far as the printing, I need to come up with something for that. Right now, I copy and paste to word and then print, but I do need a printer friendly version. I will ask some of my blogging buddies about that. Thanks for mentioning that, I had not even thought of it! I hope that you enjoy them!

  12. Barb says:

New to your site. Looks good! For the recipes, is there a way to just print it, without the other stuff? Maybe I’m misssing it.

  13. Barb says:

How much does a bushel make in pint jars? I am new to this, so totally baffled!

  14. these look wonderful, i can’t believe i never thought to make them!

  15. Joyce says:

Looks super easy. I think my girls will like this.

  16. Julianna says:

yum, just in time for apple season :D

  17. I love cinnamon apples! What a great idea to bottle them. Does the syrup need to be thickened before serving or do you just serve straight from the jar?

    • Rene says:

I usually heat the apples and serve with the syrup the way that it is. You can add a couple teaspoons of flour if you want to use it in an apple pie instead of just as cinnamon apples.

I’m on the verge of contacting an established computer craftsperson and cosigning to their business. . . Anyone with ideas or advice?.
