With all the great deals and freebies that couponers get each week, it is easy for us to spend almost no money and still have items to donate. I have heard from some people that they are ashamed to give these items to others since they were able to snag such great deals.
Here are my thoughts about this:
I am not at all ashamed to donate items that I got for free or close to free for others. My husband and I have a set amount that we are able to give to others. Yes, I could go out and pay full price for those items, but then I would have very little to give to others. Whereas, I could snag some really sweet deals, and be able to donate a tons of great, new items.
At a recent baby shower, I was able to give 6 packs of baby diapers to the new mom. I spent 2-3 dollars on each pack, h0wever, other people gave 1-2 packs of diapers, whereas I was able to bless her with 6 packs for probably the same amount of money as people with the 1-2 packs gave. The difference was, I bought the diapers at a rock bottom price. Do you think the baby or mom will be able to tell the difference in the diapers? Nope. Other than the fact that she know me, and knows I never pay full price for an item (-;
I actually like to donate items AFTER Christmas. I have been told that donations really drop off in the months following Christmas. So, I have a challenge for each of you. I want this challenge to be something that everyone can participate in, hence the reason for this amount:
Set aside $20 for bargain shopping for others over the next 2 months. That is only $10 a month. I am going to do this as well. At the end of two months, I will show you what I have been able to snag for that amount of money. I would love for some of you to join me on this $20 adventure of giving to others!!! If you do join in, I would love to see pictures etc. I think it will be amazing how much we could bless our local communities just using our couponing talent with that $20.
What do you guys think? Anybody want to join me??? I hope that you will. If there is one thing that I have learned, it always feels better to give than to receive!
Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord,
and he will repay him for his deed. Proverbs 19:17
Whoever closes his ear to the cry of the poor
will himself call out and not be answered. Proverbs 21:13
give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.” Luke 6:38
