My mom, we’ll call her Budget Saving Nana, is a wonderful gardener. She has been wanting to write some posts about saving money through gardening. This will be the first of several posts that she has written for you guys to enjoy. You know the main way that I am able to save money, and eat organic produce is through gardening. Everything that I learned about gardening, I learned from my mom. I hope that you guys are able to benefit from her gardening expertise!
Budget Saving Nana and Blooming Trees
I love dogwoods. They are just gorgeous in the spring and one of my favorite trees. I remember one day that my husband made the comment that too bad we couldn’t eat dogwood. I laughed, but that made me think.
So, instead of dogwoods in my front yard, I planted cherry trees. They have the most fantastic display of flowers. We picked cherries off our trees last year and ate them right in the yard. I would love to say that I had some left over for canning, freezing or pies, but they were so good fresh off the tree that they just never made it inside!
If you decide to plant cherry trees, be sure that they can withstand the cold in your area. Buy good stock. A good investment in several trees will last most of your life time. Think about how much you would save on fruit for an upfront investment.
We’ve planted all sorts of fruit trees through the years, but the cherry tree is my favorite. You should call your local extension agent and see what grows best in your area. Think about all the money you will save on fruit by putting a few trees in the ground.
As a word of caution…….some trees require pollinators. It is always best to plant more than one fruit tree. We have 3 different varieties of cherry trees to be sure that they pollinate well and yes, we planted them right in the front yard!

(There are other players worth considering out there, like the Sony Walkman X, but I hope this gives you enough info to make an informed decision of the Zune vs players other than the iPod line as well.)

Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.
