Not Buying Flowers For Valentine’s Day

Not everyone will agree with this budget saving tip, but it works for us. Flowers are SO expensive on Valentine’s Day. I know they are beautiful, but they just cost so much money.

So, I have actually asked my hubby to NOT get me flowers on Valentine’s Day. I still want the day to be acknowledged, because I love him, but I am just as happy without flowers. Our wallet is definitely happier. We usually make each other cards, which is so much more heartfelt. If we happen to go to a store with flowers, we will look at them, and he will pick out a bouquet that he WOULD have bought. Sounds silly I know, but I think it’s sweet.

I just can’t stand the though of spending that much money on flowers that will die, and the price is so jacked up around Valentine’s Day. That extra expense is not in our budget. Living below our means is much more important to me than expensive flowers.

When there are flowers in bloom around our yard, I love for my hubby and children to pick me flowers and bring them inside. I truly enjoy those FREE flowers, but other than that, I would prefer for our money to be spent in different ways.

i have always told my husband that it takes as much trouble and effort to buy me one flower as it does to buy a dozen, so a single flower is a great gift

I ask my husband to not buy flowers either. We always save a Restaurant Gift Card from Christmas so we know we have a nice place to eat for Valentine’s Day for free. Cards are so expensive too, so we try to make our own which means so much more anyway.
