How To Grow Cabbage
How To Grow Cabbage:
1. If you are placing the seeds directly into the ground, you can plant them in late spring through the middle of June.
2. Plant seeds 1/4″ to 1/2″ deep.
3. If you start seeds inside, you will want to plant your seedlings about 24 inches apart. We plant ours in a triangle formation since our rows are 4 feet wide.
4. When the heads of cabbage feel firm, they are ready to be harvested.
5. You want to harvest the heads of cabbage before they split open.
6. For a continuous crop, plant seedlings or seeds each week through June, so that you can continue to have fresh cabbage.
Where To Plant Your Cabbage:
Cauliflower, broccoli and cabbage are all in the brassica family of plants. This means that if you plant them in the same place year after year, they can get Clubroot disease. So, each year make sure that you plant them in different locations where a brassica plant has not been planted in the past 4 years.

We use Early Jersey Wakefield cabbage seeds.
Companion Plants for Cabbage:
Cabbage loves thyme, dill, rosemary, mint, chamomile, onions, garlic, beets, potatoes, celery, and peas. So you have lots of options about what to plant it near.
Bugs To Watch Out For With Cabbage:
If you see cabbage worms, go ahead and manually remove them. They will turn into moths, and they eat your cabbage plants.

Thanks for the post I was actually planning my garden last night. I want to add cabbage to it. Cabbage has so many excellent health properties.
Me again- another question and could not remember your email address- cabbage- my first year planting it and cauliflower- I actually cheated and bought the already started plants at a nursery and planted them about 3 or 4 weeks ago and I am a but confused- I have gorgeous leaves and the plants are getting taller and bigger but I am not sure when and how the heads form- am I missing something or does it take some time or I need to do something? Any help would be welcome.
