- Show the student how words and letters move from left to right. Use your finger to “underline” words as you read.
- Books go right side up. Are the pictures upside down? Are the letters upside down?
- Have your child draw lines from left to right.
- Hand a book to a child and ask him if it is right side up. Show him if he does not understand. Again, ask are the pictures right side up?
- Play a game with books. Have several in a stack. See if your child can turn and hold them right side up.
- Demonstrate left to right as the child holds the book.
- Say things like, “mommy has to turn this book right side up so I can read the letters.” Notice I have to start reading on the left side of the page.” As you point out pictures work from left to right on the page.
