Blackberry Strawberry Smoothies

We are really getting a lot of blackberries and strawberries every day from our budget saving garden. We have been making quite a few smoothies each day from the fresh fruit. With the Harris Teeter triples sale I have lots of FREE yogurt. We have really been enjoying our FREE smoothies. I try to sneak a few veggies into our smoothies as well when we make them. If I have some leftover squash or carrots, I add them as well. The kids and my husband love them, so it is a good way to get some veggies in them that they might not otherwise eat. Here is a mainly blackberry and strawberry smoothie that we made last night:

Blackberry Strawberry Smoothies

2 dried dates, soaked and shredded (to add sweetness)
1.5 cup of blackberries
1.5 cup strawberries
1 cup of strawberry yogurt
2 cups of vanilla yogurt

(Now for my add-ins: 1/2 yellow squash, 1/2 zucchini, 1/2 carrot, 1/2 handful sweet Wando green peas) And no one knew. (-:

I like to use frozen berries so that it the texture is similar to ice cream, so I use the berries that we picked and froze the night before. I just mix it all together, and add a little milk if needed. I wait to add the milk until the end since sometimes berries can be juicier, and it may not be needed.

Smoothies are a really great way to use up some fresh veggies and fruits in a way that kids enjoy.
