Healthy Snack Ideas For Kids

Healthy Snack Ideas For Kids

This week, I am participating in a challenge to Invent a Healthy Snack! Yesterday, I talked about my muffin tin full of fresh fruits, veggies and nuts that my children enjoy. Today, I want to talk about quick snack ideas on the run that our kids can enjoy. Most of these are obvious snack ideas, but if you are like me, and the kids are saying, I’m hungry mommy!!! I can’t think to well with multiple kids whining that phrase at me.

Also, these snacks are great to have on hand for when you need to run out the door right before meal time, and you need a snack to tide your kids over. These are some of the snacks that I keep on hand to use throughout the week. I just pick out 2-3 to have on hand for that week.

  1. hard boiled free range eggs
  2. raw nuts
  3. whole fruit (Make sure to buy organic if your fruit is in the dirty dozen
  4. yogurt (We love Stonyfields Yo Baby) I love to make smoothies too! (Or make your own yogurt!)
  5. whole wheat bread (I slice this as soon as I bake it so it is ready for a quick snack or meal.)
  6. Homemade Granola Bars There are lots of variations (Cranberry white chocolate, peanut butter, mango coconut, apple cinnamon and more)
  7. dehydrated apples (I buy cases of these each September, and dehydrate enough to last us through most of the year. I know most people won’t have these on hand, but if you love apples like we do, maybe you want to think about it.) I also love to make canned cinnamon apples to use during the year for snacks.
  8. trail mix Apple Trail Mix and Mango Trail Mix
  9. And of course, fresh veggies from your organic garden! It’s amazing what kids will eat out of a garden!! You can check out my tips for gardening with kids (birth through 18)
  10. These snacks are so much better for my kids than chips, cookies and other things, and take very little time to throw together each week.

What other ideas do you have? Remember that you can leave a comment at Healthy Child and be entered to win a tote full of organic goodies. You can find information about the giveaway here. The giveaway is going on through May 30th, so make sure to enter for a tote full of organic goodies!!

This blog post is part of the Easy Organic Living program co-hosted by Baby Center and Healthy Child Healthy World and sponsored by Stonyfield.
