How My Family Is Transitioning To A More Organic Lifestyle

Organic Living

I hope that you guys have been working on adding some organic foods into your families’ diets so far this year. Earlier we had talked about a challenge to save some money, and use part of that money to add organic foods to our families’ diets with some of those savings.

Our family is slowly but surely attempting to change our diet to all organic foods. We are making sure to grow our own top 12 dirty fruits and vegetables or else buy them organically. The research shows that you can reduce your pesticide consumption by 4/5 just by only buying these 12 organically.

We have also switched to organic milk, coconut oil, free range eggs (from our chickens & ducks), and we ensure that all of our meat is organic. We buy our beef in bulk and split a cow with a couple of families so that this meat is very affordable. We have also switched to organic butter and yogurt (most of the time).

The two items that we eat a lot, but have not switched over are oranges and cheese. Oranges are not one of the top 12 items, and they have a thick skin, so they will probably be one of the last things that we switch to organically grown. Our cream cheese is always organic, but our mozzarella and cheddar cheeses are not. I am hoping to begin buying these cheeses organically by the end of the year.

We have actually completely given up white flour and don’t even have any in the house anymore. I might go buy some for birthday cakes . . . I haven’t decided for sure. We really have enjoyed the whole wheat flour! It adds so much more flavor to our foods.

So, over the next 3 weeks, I will be participating in 3 more challenges. I am looking forward to sharing them with you guys starting tomorrow, and I hope some of you will want to participate as well. And, as an added bonus, there will be a giveaway to go with these challenges! (I will share details with the challenge tomorrow.)

So, are any of you transitioning to a more organic and natural lifestyle? I would love to hear about it from you!

This blog post is part of the Easy Organic Living program co-hosted by Baby Center and Healthy Child Healthy World and sponsored by Stonyfield.
