I am continuing my homeschool series. Earlier I posted about Why I Homeschool,  How To Start Homeschooling, and my 7^th graders typical day. Today, I am going to talk about homeschooling my four year old.

Science Curriculum For Elementary School

I have received numerous e-mails asking about what specific curriculum we use, so here is the start to that answer:

I have used several different science curriculums over the years. I was a science teacher, and love to teach science! I have looked over tons of science curriculum throughout the years. I have used Abeka, state text books, and others and have finally settled on Apologia Science. I absolutely LOVE IT!! I doubt that I will ever change!!

For homeschool elementary students, you can use the Exploring Creation books by Jeanine Fulbright. I actually got to meet her at a homeschool convention, and she was just amazing!

These books are wonderful!! They are written from a biblical perspective, which is very important to me. They also have wonderful experiments that are easy for homeschoolers to do.

I think that experiments are incredibly important for children to understand science, and there are quite a few experiments throughout the book. The experiments also use items that are easy to find, and most of which I already have around the house which is a huge plus for homeschoolers.

Exploring Creation books are written so that students study each subject in detail. I strongly feel that this is the best way to study science. Why just gloss over a few facts? That would be uninteresting and easy to forget. If instead, you allow children to really learn a subject, they will be so much more interested, and they will retain that information better.

We have four children so far, and so I definitely am interested in curriculum that can be taught to multiple ages at the same time. I am only one person, and I like to spend as much time as possible with my kids, and these books are designed to be shared together as a family.

My 12 year old and four year old are actually using the Exploring Creation – Astronomy book together right now. (My eldest daughter is actually studying Physical Science this year, and this is just something extra that she is doing.) The books are written for children up through the sixth grade.

There are several subjects that are covered in the elementary school books.

• Exploring Creation with Astronomy
• Exploring Creation with Botany
• Exploring Creation with Zoolgy 1: Flying Creatures of the Fifth Day
• Exploring Creation with Zoology 2: Swimming Creatures of the Fifth Day
• Exploring Creation with Zoology 3: Land Animals of the Sixth Day
• Exploring Creation with Human Anatomy and Physiology

My eldest daughter absolutely loved these books! There are notebooking journals for each of the books that each child completes. These notebooks allow the child to collect much information and do projects for each book that they are learning.

The books have online activities as well. When you read the front of the textbook, it lets you know how to access these areas.

I can’t recommend these books highly enough. They are amazing, and so much fun!!
