Top 15 Reasons To Homeschool (By My Daughter)

why my child loves homeschooling

I am continuing my homeschool series with a post written by my daughter! If you have missed some of my earlier posts about homeschooling, make sure to check out Why I Homeschool,  How To Start Homeschooling.

My daughter found out that I have been writing a homeschool series, and she really wanted to write something for this series as well. Well, actually, she wanted to write quite a few articles. (-: She thinks it is so neat that she can write something and have me publish it!

OK, so this picture probably doesn’t really go with this post, but since my eldest daughter doesn’t want her picture posted . . . and one of her reasons to homeschool is getting to be with her siblings , , , I thought I’d post a cute picture of a couple of them. They still love having their picture taken.

KB does LOVE homeschooling, and would literally cry if she had to go back to public school. So . . . here are her top 15 reasons she loves homeschooling. (She came up with these on her own, so they are actually a 12 year old’s opinion on homeschooling.) Feel free to leave a comment or ask her a question. She would be so excited to get some feedback, and would love to answer questions!!

Top 15 Reasons To Homeschool . . . from a 12 year old’s perspective

  1. I can spend time with my siblings, parents and grandparents.
  2. I can go on trips with my parents when my dad gets sent away for work. (Rene’s note: Sometimes my husband will be sent to another location for a month at a time, and we try to tag along if we can.)
  3. Whenever, I get stuck on a concept, we can stop until I understand it.
  4. I am not around lots of peer pressure. I can still be with other kids, but my main influence is good influence.
  5. We can go on vacation when areas are not as crowded.
  6. We can do fun experiments that I would not normally be able to do.
  7. I am able to go on really fun fieldtrips.
  8. I can do in depth research on topics that I am interested in.
  9. We can choose which curriculum is best for me.
  10. I get individualized lessons.
  11. When I am sick, I can take a day off of school without getting behind.
  12. I am able to participate in more extracurricular activities than I was able to in public school.
  13. My whole family is able to help with my homeschooling, which is really awesome.
  14. I am able to travel more because I homeschool.
  15. My teacher knows me very well, and is the coolest teacher ever. She is also able to explain things very, very well. (Rene’s note:****I promise, I did not pay her to say this. (-: ****)

  2. Raymond says:

You are a VERY smart little girl. I wish that I would have been home schooled when I was younger. Will you still be home-schooled when you are taking High School level courses? Also, do you plan on going to College? I KNOW that question is WAYYYYY early – just curious…….
PS: I thought the answer to #15 was pretty awesome as well………

    • Hi, Raymond! Thanks for saying something about my post. I am definitely planning on going to college, and I hope that I am still homeschooled for high school. I think that my mom will let me. She has been planning what classes what classes I will be taking in high school already. I am the most excited about marine biology that I will be taking because I love water and fish. I can’t believe someone responded to my post!! That is so cool!!!!!!!

  3. Amy says:

I love hearing this from a kid’s point of view. Thanks so much for sharing, KB!

  4. Sarah says:

I love your mom’s site and one of the reasons that I follow her is because she homeschools. Sounds like you have a lot of great reasons to love homeschooling!!

  5. Laurie says:

Very nice, I like her reasons . In fact I share a few. We hope to begin homeschool this Fall.

  6. Brenda says:

You said like field trips. Where have you gone?
Also, you mention that you are able to participate in more extracurricular activities. Do you mean with community groups or with your family?
It sure sounds like you are off to a great start in life! I am glad to hear your point of view (and look forward to more postings?!?!)

    • Hi! Brenda, I went to an aquarium, the zoo, a foam making factory, a cloth making factory, science museums, history museums, the transportation museums, lots of battlefields, an old courthouse, old farms, plantations, Washington DC, Baltimore and many other places. Every time that we go on vacation, my parents try to find historical places for us to visit. I participate in more extracurricular activities with the community. Also, there are lots of different activities that I can do with homeschool groups like field day, sports, and helping other people. I also used to do karate 5 days a week. I do some activities with my family as well. I hope to do more postings if my mom will let me! Thanks so much for your questions!! It is so cool to get them. KB

  7. Brenda says:

ugh, I hate typos! I meant to say, “You said YOU like field trips.”

  8. Devone says:

I think all of your reasons for homeschooling are wonderful ones. I especially loved how many times you mentioned vacations. My oldest daughter, who is 14, was really wanting to try high school this year. She’s always homeschooled so she wanted to see what other kids experience. Plus we were new to the area so she thought it would be neat to start somewhere new doing something different. However, when she realized how being in school would effect our travels, she quickly changed her mind and decided to continue homeschooling. Homeschooling does allow a family wonderful freedoms where trips are concerned. Thank you for sharing this. Blessings.

  9. Raymond says:

Tell your Mom that she has competition for her blog. You are VERY good….. :-)

  10. Sharon says:

Thank you for sharing this. I started homeschooling for one group of reasons and continued mainly due to the flexibility. Your daughter summed it up well!

  11. Gail Gardner says:

Congratulations on your first published post! I’m sure it will not be your last. In fact, if it is ok with your Mom I would love to have you write some posts on a new blog I’ll be launching. You know about the kind of topics I’ll be writing about there.

You are lucky to have great parents who care enough to homeschool and grow healthy food and to have a Mom who wants to stay home with you. I would never send a child to school because that is where passion and creativity are discouraged and they learn “I can’t”.

Schools try to force every student into a mold they don’t fit and insist that they try to learn in ways that may not be best for them as individuals. You can learn so much more and faster with independent study and homeschooling especially with access to all the information online.

If you ever want resources or experts to assist you in your studies let me know and I’ll see what I can find. Internet research is one of my specialties.

And before you automatically think you should go to college I am a huge proponent of finding the person who is talented at what you want to learn and asking them to mentor or apprentice you. Why pay to go to college when you can get one-on-one training from the best?

    • Gail – My daughter read your comment and in addition to jumping up and down and screaming with excitement, she has now called every family member. She gets so excited about the comments! She is ecstatic at the idea of writing additional posts. LOL!

With havin so much content do you ever run into any problems of plagorism or copyright infringement? My website has a lot of exclusive content I’ve either created myself or outsourced but it seems a lot of it is popping it up all over the internet without my authorization. Do you know any ways to help protect against content from being ripped off? I’d truly appreciate it.
