Spanish Homeschool Curriculum
My eldest daughter is studying Spanish. Although I had a couple of years of Spanish in college, this is not something that I would feel comfortable teaching by myself. We use The Rosetta Stone to teach Spanish. We actually have a homeschool version that includes workbooks.
She spends 30 minutes on Spanish 3 days a week, Monday, Wednesday and Friday. As she enters high school, we will probably increase this class to an hour.
The student learns the words and how to pronounce them. The program is an immersion program and there is actually not English next to Spanish words, so the students learn the language through listening and seeing the Spanish word.
There is also a section in each lesson that allows them to speak into a microphone. The program then analyzes the sounds. She keeps working until the native speaker and her voice sound the same.
She has really enjoyed using this program. Rosetta Stone has a free demo on their website that you can check out.
Grammar knowledge can be weak using this program, but the homeschool version has workbooks that help to address this.
We are also considering having her enroll in a community college for a year of Spanish on of her last years in high school, but we have not decided for sure yet. We will have to see how she is doing after several years of Rosetta Stone.
