Many recipes call for cream of mushroom, cream of chicken, or cream of celery soup. It is SO easy to make your own cream soups! It only takes a few minutes, and tastes so much better than what you can buy in the store. Plus, you are able to control the amount of sodium that you put into the soup.
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons flour (I often use whole wheat flour. Just make sure that you have ground it very well.)
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 cup broth or stock
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. black pepper
Instructions
- Melt the butter in a skillet. Add the flour and wisk. Wisk together for a couple of minutes until thoroughly mixed. Add in 1/2 cup of warm milk, 1/2 cup warm broth, salt and pepper. You want to add these warm so that the soup will thicken quickly. You can add in cooked mushrooms or celery if you want to have those vegetables in your soup as well. Then, you are ready to add this soup to whatever dish you are making! Try it, it really is so much better than most store bought soups!
